The BHCB picks for what we're watching this May! (And we're only 12 days late, yaaay.)
Korean Dramas:
~ Lucky Romance
Empress: *rolls eyes* *rolls eyes again* 1) not feeling like rom-coms at the
moment 2) I resent the cheap nerd who believes in marriage as it's meant
to be. :P
Ambassador: When the synopsis for this first came out, I wasn't interested. THEN they cast Lee Soo Hyuk as second lead. I'm ABSOLUTELY watching it now. Especially since his character will be a tennis player. Despite the iffy sounding premise, it's a primetime kdrama so it can't be TOO bad, so YES, I'll be watching it... while patiently waiting for Lee Soo Hyuk to be cast in a lead role. However, depending on how they handle the fortune telling and seduction aspects, I'll drop it, if I can't condone it.
Empress: Wait, WHAT? C'mon, drama-world...Well, I agree that kdramas can tone down some pretty questionable material...most likely I'll only watch clips, though. Supplied by you. XD
Unni: WAAAAAAAAAY too much questionable material for me. Okay Secret Garden with the body swapping was interesting but...seductions and fortune tellers no thank you!
~ Beast’s Beauty/The Beauty of the Beast
Empress: My list is too long to be tempted by this. XD I, on the other hand........ :D
Ambassador: The name is enough to pique my interest; I love Beauty and the Beast stories. This doesn't appear from the synopsis to be a classic B&B type plot, but it does sound pretty good. Plus, I've heard good things about Nam Goong Min's acting from the Empress.
Unni: Hmmm...this one looks like something I might watch. I’ll probably wait to see some reactions and clips before I commit.
~ Another Oh Hae Young
Empress: Curious about the seeing the future part...maybe. If it gets good reviews I might check it out. :D
Ambassador: Rom-com isn't my favorite genre but this one sounds like it will be a lot of fun. It’ll be interesting to see Seo Hyun Jin and Jeon Hye Bin face off against each other- I've liked what I've seen of both of their acting in other dramas. Also KIM MI KYUNG IS IN IT. And Lee Jae Yoon. Lots of great reasons to check it out besides the quirky synopsis. :D
Unni: This could be so cute and comical! I’ll probably wait to see how it’s going before jumping on board.
~ Dear My Friends
Empress: Nope. I saw trailers and was not interested.
Ambassador: Not really interested. Not even for Lee Kwang Soo.
Unni: This sounds sweet! But not enough to make time to make it work.
~ Mirror of the Witch
Empress: It sounds a little bit like Rapunzel...and what I've seen looks visually
gorgeous, but I'm unlikely to watch it until I know more about the role
of magic in the story. Then we'll see.... :D
Ambassador: YES, I'M WATCHING THIS. I've been wanting Yoon Shi Yoon to do a sageuk since I first saw him in Flower Boy Next Door and the fact that it's fantasy is the icing on the cake. This will be his first starring role since his return from the military and I've been anticipating it since the news first broke.
Unni: Okay! This seems just a little to dark for me and a little too much magic for my personal taste.
Chinese Dramas:
~ Little Husband
Empress: *wrinkles nose* Mostly likely not. :)
Ambassador: Nah. Not my type.
Unni: Nope! Poor Guy!
~ Precious Youth
Empress: That sounds long. XD Probably not.
Ambassador: Not really my type either, and I have too many other dramas to even think about trying this one right now, though Liu Shishi and Zheng Kai make it tempting.
Unni: Sounds way too long for my interest level.
~ First Love
Empress: LOL nope. XD
Ambassador: Sounds like a soap opera. Not interested, even for Hawick Lau.
Empress: :P Same. Even with an intelligble synopsis.
Unni: Not interested.
~ To Be a Better Man
Empress: Most interesting so far, but still no.
Ambassador: Sounds interesting but not enough to make me add it to my list.
Unni: Interesting...but not list worthy.
~ Les Interpretes
Empress: I kinda like the title. But nah.
Ambassador: Yes, I want to see this one. There has been quite a bit of buzz about it and Yang Mi usually plays fun characters.
Unni: This one sounds like it could be really interesting.
~ Chinese Paladin 5
Empress: It takes a lot to make me interested in Chinese dramas. And this sounds
like the type of storyline I disagree with on a basic theological level.
XD My list is way too long...
Ambassador: I started Chinese Paladin 3 but haven't finished it yet. I'm putting this on my 'to try some day' list because I do want to see it, but don't have time for it now.
Unni: Someday I want to try a Paladin...but I have yet to make time for one, and with all of the fairy stuff. I am just not sure.
Japanese Dramas:
Because Japanese drama airs by seasons and the spring season started in April and runs until June (I think), there are no new Japanese dramas on which to report.
Empress: In other words, I MIGHT CATCH UP ON SOME OF THE OTHER DRAMAS I'M SO BEHIND ON. :D YAY.
Ambassador: SAME HEEEERE. Waaaaay too many dramas and NEVER ENOUGH TIME.
What May dramas will you be watching?

WWW ~ April 2016 Edition
After the huge amount of kdramas premiering in March, there are only a few slated for April. Japan sure has a bunch though.
Korean dramas:
~ Master: God of Noodles
Empress: .....that premise doesn't even make sense. And the title irritates me. XD
Ambassador: Not particularly interested, especially since it doesn't have any actors that I know. Plus, my Wed/Thur slot is plenty full enough right now. *hyperventilates because it's time for more Descendants of the Sun*
Unni: I’ll be honest, anything with babies and food will catch my attention, this plot sounds interesting. I’ll probably watch for ratings and see how things are going before I jump in. But this sounds really cool.
Empress: *dies* well, we couldn't have gotten more different answers there...XD lolllll
Ambassador: *laughing* Readers, again you behold the world of difference that sometimes exists in the drama choices of the three of us. :D
~ Working Mom, Parenting Daddy
Empress: Not terribly interested, based on the title alone...I feel like it's been done before....
Ambassador: No synopsis plus this title means NOPE, nothing to catch or hold my interest.
Unni: Not really attention getting here.
~ The Flower in Prison
Empress: Hmmm....there are so many March dramas I'm watching/want to watch...in another time I might check it out....
Ambassador: Yes, at some point, because I want to see Jin Se-yeon in something that isn't Korean-rebel-during-the-Japanese-Occupation related (Bridal Mask, Inspiring Generation) and see if I like her any better. PLUS, it has Kim Mi-sook, who I like a lot.
Unni: This sounds really cool, again so many things on my plate right now but this goes on the radar.
Empress: *we all stick this on the list* XD
~ Entertainer
Empress: I was like eh...and then I saw the trailer....and 1) that is the most /cheerful/ trailer I've seen in ages 2) JI SUNG. I realized at that point I hadn't even fully read through the drama description or who was gonna be in it. I'm tempted now, though....for sure it's going on my list. XD
Ambassador: At some point, /yes/, because Ji Sung is a great actor and Minhyuk is also good.
Unni: Too much going on, not my typical interest.
Empress: Ji Sung, Unni...'sall I'm sayin'...though now that I think about it, I've only seen him in two dramas...but the man can act...though yeah, this isn't my normal type of plot...{neither was the last one I saw him in though...}
Ambassador: Yesss, JI SUNG. Plus Minhyuk from CNBlue. You'll like his acting a lot, Unni. (I can't remember if you've seen him in anything else or not?)
Chinese dramas:
~ Ode to Joy
Empress: :) I'm not enough of a fan of Chinese Dramas to check that out....
Ambassador: Nah, not my kind of thing, though if its popularity is huge, I might check it out.
Unni: Interesting. This could be really good or very sour. Watch ratings, and then invest...maybe.
Taiwanese dramas:
~ Love at Seventeen
If you could go back and have the chance to do it over, would you? [It appears to be about several characters getting to go back to being 17?]
Empress: O.o re/peat/ being 17? I'd rather not...
Ambassador: Nahhh, not my kind of thing.
Unni: Hmmmmmmmmmmmm Taiwanese. This looks like it could be a lot of fun.
Japanese dramas:
~ Toto Nee-chan
Empress: Innnnnnnteresting....though again, it might take more than adoring Bloody Monday to get me watch some Japanese dramas...
Ambassador: Maybe some day. It has an interesting premise, but nothing that immediately grabs me.
Unni: Sounds more complicated than I want to get.
~ Love Song
Empress: It sounds somewhere between cute and heartbreaking...with Japan you never know....but not enough to grab me...
Ambassador: Nahhhh, not interested.
Unni: Nope. Just no.
Empress: lol, you guys...okay, it does sound awfully painful, doesn't it...
Ambassador: It just sounds a bit... slow to me. :)
~ Dias Police: Ihou Keisatsu
Empress: That...actually sounds really interesting. Though I'm still probably more interested in watching the Japanese Liar Game first....
Ambassador: YES. Intriguing plot + Shota Matsuda.
Unni: Okay. This sounds cool. If it gets really good ratings I’ll probably try it and make it my first Japanese drama.
Empress: I still need to get you to watch Bloody Monday.... :)
Ambassador: *evil laughter track plays*
~ Saigo no Restaurant
Empress: .......I'm kind of really curious if Julius Caeser and Joan of Arc are Japanese or how that will work.....possibly not curious to check it out, though. {I have to get through the dramas I'm currently watching...}
Ambassador: YES, most definitely. It sounds hilarious and all anyone has to do is say the name of any one of the historical people on the cast list and tada! my attention is caught.
Unni: Okay! This sounds cool and super fun! I just might have to take a serious peek at this one.
Empress: ...I'll wait to hear the opinion of you two. XD
~ Nezumi, Edo wo Hashiru Season 2
Empress: This makes me curious just because of a book I'm reading... :D I think I'll put it on my list.
Ambassador: Absolutely YES, which necessitates watching Season 1, too.
Unni: I haven’t watched season one, most likely am not going to jump into season two. So no?
Empress: See, that's what I thought about Mrs. Cop 2, which I am currently completely loving. But if it's like jumping into Season 2 of Bloody Monday... :P yeah, I'd have to watch season 1 first...
Ambassador: I think it's more like Bloody Monday in that regard. Mrs Cop 2 and Vampire Prosecutor/Vampire Detective- they're both shows whose seasons can stand alone. Bloody Monday's can't and I don't think this one's can either.
~ Doctor Car
Empress: What. I think this may be a failure in synopsis-writing...because I feel like that should be more interesting than it sounds....
Ambassador: Mmmm, maybe at some point but it's a long way in the future.
Unni: Interesting, but I don’t really have the time.
~ Doctor Chousahan
Empress: Were it not for the fact that I tend to really NOT like medical dramas at all, I would check this one out.
Ambassador: Sounds pretty interesting. Possibly at some point.
Unni: Interesting, but I already have too many dramas’ on my watch list to make me want to add this one too.
~ Our House
Empress: That actually sounds interesting enough that I might put it on my list... :D
Ambassador: Not sure when, but yes. It sounds like it could be fun and thought-provoking.
Unni: This could prove to be veeeeeery interesting.
~ 99.9%
Empress: This makes me curious...I'm not really in a mood for legal dramas right now, though.
Ambassador: It's going on my list because premise + Matsumoto Jun, but it's far enough down that I won't get to it for several months.
Unni: Interesting but courtrooms aren't really my interest.
~ Tamiou Special
Empress: Wow. Um...I think it would depend hugely on the actors involved and if they could sell it...I think there would be a tendency to overact and possibly be really lame...plus I'm not sure how clean the storyline will end up being. It could be done really well, though...
Ambassador: This sounds terrifically hilarious. Yes, I'll be watching it.
Unni: *Giggles* Switching body stories are hilarious....but I have so much on my plate. Maybe if the Ambassador says it’s beyond good without giving spoilers.
~ Kagero Ezu Special
Empress: Haha...That sounds interesting, Ambassador, no? XD That's actually the same title as a 1959 Japanese mystery movie, though I can't find a synopsis of it. I wonder if they're related....
Ambassador: Um. Harem. Edo. DUH, YES.
Unni: LOL This is SUCH AN AMBASSADOR SERIES!!! I’ll leave it with her.
Ambassador: (I'm laughing at how you both immediately knew I'd be watching it, before I'd said anything. Our friendship is hilariously great.)
~ Night Hero Naoto
Empress: I have so many masked hero stories already on my list... :)
Ambassador: Ehhh, maybe.
Unni: Interesting idea. Probably won't watch.
~ Kiseki no Hito
Empress: Somehow this sounds like a very Japanese plot line...I might put it on my list just because I'm curious...
Ambassador: Color me quite intrigued. Yes, I'll be watching it.
Unni: Seems like an interesting idea, but doesn't catch my interest enough.
What April dramas will each of you be watching?
Korean dramas:
~ Master: God of Noodles
Empress: .....that premise doesn't even make sense. And the title irritates me. XD

Who's Watching What? ~ March 2016 Edition
Inspired by this post, we thought this would be a fun way to introduce our readers to the varying tastes the three of us have in dramas. The Ambassador didn't have time to dig up the March Taiwanese and Japanese drama releases, so it's just Korean and Chinese dramas this time around.
These answers were given independently of each other- before each of us had read the other responses. Basically, Empress and Ambassador agree on everything except for vampires... and Unni makes sure we don't freak ourselves out with what we watch; which makes for plenty of laughter and teasing during our three-way discussions.
Kdramas:
~ Babysitter
Empress: o.O I am intrigued. I actually hadn't heard about this one before...I'll certainly be checking it out.
Ambassador: YES. Especially since it's the same PD who did White Christmas.
Unni: probably not. It sounds like a story I was too afraid to write. Nope. Kids+Violence=Negative.
Empress: I'll let you know if it is indeed about violence + kids...in which case I'll probably come to you howling that you are wise and I am stupid...
Ambassador: Empress, you and I should watch it together. [Can you imagine what watching WC together the very first time around would have been like?]
Empress: WC together the first time around....wow.....I dunno, given that I watched it in like 2 days....watching it /with/ someone might have done me in....XD
~ Goodbye Mr. Black - March 16!!!
Empress: DEFINITELY. I can see The Count of Monte Cristo being turned into makjang craziness, but honestly the story kind of already /is/ makjang, so if it's done right it should be okay. :D Then again, it's based on a story based on a story, so how close to Monte Cristo are they actually getting?
Ambassador: Given how I eagerly haunted news sites for all tidbits of this drama and then ran to you both with said tidbits, I don't think there's any question whether I'll be watching this one or not. It will take priority over all other March dramas- equal priority with Descendants of the Sun. Even if it bears only a passing resemblance to the Count of Monte Cristo, seeing the three-way dynamic of Lee Jin-wook, Moon Chae-won and Yoo In-young will be worth it. March 16- I can hardly wait!
Unni: Yes!
~ Jackpot
Empress: I'm going to check this one out...I'm curious about JGS in a sageuk, and if Yeo Jin Goo continues to improve, he's going to be a really good actor - the kind who makes checking out his dramas worth it.
Ambassador: Definitely watching because: it's an interesting premise, it's Jang Geun Suk in a sageuk (I'm not a fan of the actor but I've seen clips of him in sageuk before and he was pretty good) and Yeo Jin Goo is stellar.
Unni: Fan of JGS but not sure I like the plot and premises. I might stalk the drama for him and see if it’s interesting.
~ Marriage Contract
Empress: Right now I'm not interested in a main-character-dies plot...and I haven't finished the last Uee drama I started.
Ambassador: Interested only because UEE is starring, so I might check it out for her sometime, but certainly not soon.
Unni: Raises minor flag of interest, but not really going for it.
Ambassador: What was the last UEE drama you started, Empress- Golden Rainbow? I still need to see that.
Empress: Last UEE drama - High Society....which I heard was lousy anyways, so I have little interest in going to finish it, even though it started out semi-interesting...
~ Memory
Empress: Eh...I'm over lawyers with Alzheimer's at the moment...but given how good Resurrection and Devil are supposed to be, I'll probably put it on my list if it's said to be really good.
Ambassador: Not interested at the moment, although the revenge trio dramas are on my list. I'll probably read recaps of this one. There's been quite a bit of buzz around it- I'm not sure if it's due to the actor or to the writer/PD team.
Unni: *hail to a new twist in memory lapses* no thank you.
~ Ms. Temper and Nam Jung Gi
Empress: Probably not...(The times I say Nope are always the times I later end up watching...XD)
Ambassador: Also not interested- probably will check out recaps.
Unni: nope.
~ Monster/Tyrant
Empress: Park Ki-woong is in it, Ambassador... I don't think that's enough to get me to watch 50 episodes about revenge, especially when I still have 43 episodes of awesomeness to watch in the form of Six Flying Dragons, so...I'll probably wait until his next drama to see him back from the army.
Ambassador: I wasn't planning on trying this one until I found out that it will be Park Ki Woong's comeback drama. I'll still probably wait to watch it, but I'll definitely check it out.
Unni: if you start this drama, dig two graves.
~ Mrs Cop 2
Empress: I planning on trying this one. I haven't seen Mrs Cop 1, but this one looks more interesting. And Kim Bum as a villain is bound to be interesting. {Plus the visuals so far are kind of gorgeous. Beautiful dramas intrigue me.}
Ambassador: Most DEFINITELY interested. Here's hoping I can manage to not fall for aspects of the villain... but I won't make any promises. Because I like living dangerously. :)
Unni: Haven’t watched 1....probably won’t watch 2.
Empress: But it has Kim Bum being villainous in it, Unni...isn't that intriguing? XD {Have you seen him in anything other than BOF?? I have started SO MANY things with him in them and then quit...I am searching for something of his to watch and enjoy...something tells me this might not be it...but...I am still intrigued. XD}
Ambassador: Kim Bum has definitely proven he's way more than just a flower boy actor (Hidden Identity is good, though not stellar)... but I hope he doesn't completely leave the flower boy roles behind. Please do some more good historical dramas in the next few years, Bum ssi.
~ My Little Baby
Empress: I'll probably read a few recaps, and if it's good I'll try it. It has the potential to be super funny, so I'm keeping it in mind.
Ambassador: Not interested at the moment, but might check it out if the reaction to it is good.
Unni: This sounds interesting...I might watch it if it get good reviews because BABY!!!! But violent crimes....and baby, possibly not so much.
Ambassador: Yeah, violent crimes + baby is an interesting juxtaposition.
Empress: Hopefully no violent crimes occur in vicinity of baby...apparently all 3 of us are waiting for other people to decide this one's worth for us... XD
~ Neighborhood Lawyer Deul Ho/My Lawyer, Mr Jo
Empress: Probably not unless I hear rave reviews. It is a webtoon adaptation, which so far usually means good things (unless they change it up from the webtoon, grrr), so I'm slightly interested. Not enough to put it on my list right now.
Ambassador: Not immediately interested but possibly sometime.
Unni: Yay....for lawyers this season, good thing I am not interested?
~ Page Turner
Empress: It's short, written by someone who wrote a drama I adored and one I liked decently well, and it has Kim So-Hyun and Ji Soo in it. Absolutely watching.
Ambassador: I want to try it but I'll probably wait until after it's done airing and watch it all at once.
Unni: Short drama raises a interest flag. Chances low.
~ Pied Piper
Empress: DEFINITELY. I'm kind of sad it's not Liar Game 2 happening, but I'll take what I can get.
Ambassador: NO WAY IN BLAZES AM I /NOT/ CHECKING THIS ONE OUT. LG team, plus the storyline plus the TITLE. Yep. For sure. I might have to watch it after it airs though, depending on where all the dramas wind up falling on my priority list.
Unni: Hmmm....after watching the trailer. Probably not. It seems like probably a better version of 24, and I am not interested in watching cute Korean police officers die, after they wrap heartstrings around mine.
Ambassador: I know, right, Empress? LG2 would've been superb but hey, we'll take this one, too. (Maybe if it's popular enough, they'll decide to revive LG2.)
~ Vampire Detective
Empress: Naw...not even for Lee Joon. XD {Having not seen any of the previous Vampire-Police dramas, this is less likely.}
Ambassador: Planning on watching, partly for the premise, partly for Lee Joon, partly because a friend liked Vampire Prosecutor so much and said SK really knows how to do vampire stories and I want to experience it for myself.
Unni: WAE??????? How is this a good idea???
Ambassador: vampires... um, it's a good idea because SK has a very different take on vampires than America does.... :)
Cdramas:
~ Fifteen Years of Waiting for Migratory Birds - the heroine has been in love with the hero for 15 years.
Empress: Sheesh, girl, get moving. Probably not... :) I've heard more interesting plot lines before...XD
Ambassador: No way, this sounds as dull as ditchwater.
Unni: I hope he’s worth it. Probably just about as interesting as me waiting for the toad I kissed when I was four....well I guess that is worse, I’d be waiting for him for 23 years now.
Empress: I hope he's worth it too...*dying*
~ God of War - period drama, Lin Gengxin and Yoona, also Godfrey Gao.
Empress: o.O Innnnnteresting...okay, it sounds slightly more intriguing than the other... :D I have so many kdramas I want to see I don't know when I'll get to this one, but I may at least put it on my list.
Ambassador: Planning on watching, partly for the title/storyline, partly for the actors.
Unni: YAY WAR!!! YAY MORE PEOPLE DYING!!!! YAY!!!! <-SARCASM!!!!
Ambassador: EVERYBODY PROBABLY DIIIIIIIIIIES AND IT'S ALL TRAGICALLY GREAT. ;)
~ Liu Shan Men - detectives in the Ming dynasty have to solve mysteries, murders and deal with palace power plays.
Empress: Sounds very typical C-drama...and since I have others on my list I probably won't be adding this one yet.
Ambassador: I put it on my TBW list because it looks interesting but I won't try it right away.
Unni: *headdesking* yes, typical Chinese plot. Not interested in people dying right now.
~ Mrs Cop 2
Empress: I planning on trying this one. I haven't seen Mrs Cop 1, but this one looks more interesting. And Kim Bum as a villain is bound to be interesting. {Plus the visuals so far are kind of gorgeous. Beautiful dramas intrigue me.}
Ambassador: Most DEFINITELY interested. Here's hoping I can manage to not fall for aspects of the villain... but I won't make any promises. Because I like living dangerously. :)
Unni: Haven’t watched 1....probably won’t watch 2.
Empress: But it has Kim Bum being villainous in it, Unni...isn't that intriguing? XD {Have you seen him in anything other than BOF?? I have started SO MANY things with him in them and then quit...I am searching for something of his to watch and enjoy...something tells me this might not be it...but...I am still intrigued. XD}
Empress: Naw...not even for Lee Joon. XD {Having not seen any of the previous Vampire-Police dramas, this is less likely.}
